Evaluation of a hybrid IMU sensor with integrated microcontroller

bcc proto

Introduction

With the hybrid sensor BMF055 Bosch provides a powerful device for Inertial Measurement Units that includes a 9-axis motion sensor and a custom programmable 32 bit Cortex M0+ microcontroller in a single package of 5.2 x 3.8 x 1.1 mm³. Diverse peripherals, an autonomous event system and a maximum clock frequency of 48 MHz enable powerful but energy-saving applications.

Description

During your thesis, you are part of a team of motivated, young, and internationally oriented researchers. You are exploring the principle of Body-Coupled Communication and implementing the signal modulation of a transmitter in software. Therefore, you are evaluating the prospects and capabilities of the BMF055 sensor's integrated microcontroller. The project focusses on the software development close to the hardware level of the 32 bit Cortex M0+ microcontroller. However, the handling of hardware components and a basic comprehension of physics are necessary.

Tasks and Requirements

  • Software development for a microcontroller
  • Signal modulation for a BCC transmitter
  • Evaluation of prospects and capabilities
  • Bosch BMF055 hybrid sensor with Cortex M0+ microcontroller
  • Body-Coupled Communication
  • Sustainable development and documentation
  • Motivated and independent working
