Prospective Graduate Students

The duration of the study course is typically two years, divided into 4 semesters. Courses start mid-October each year. Medium of instruction is English, however, basic German language courses are always beneficial for students during their studies for their stay in Siegen.

A Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (with specialisations of either Electronics Design and Technology or Communication Engineering) will be awarded upon successful completion of the program. The grades and credit points of the Electronics Design and Technology program are based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) which guarantees high international acceptance of the Master degree.

Students of the master program join us from all around the world. Hence its structure is designed to integrate the knowledge of students coming from various fields and cultures (alignment subjects). These subjects are based on student’s entry qualifications.

Electronics Design and Technology

The first semester in Electronics Design includes essential subjects of semiconductors (with the focus on the application of electronics), analogue circuits and IC designs. In the second and third semester relatively complex courses are offered providing students with broad knowledge in the domain of photonics as well as embedded engineering. Additionally, a wide range of optional subjects are offered, out of which, each student should perform 3 subject. These courses focus on communication, microelectronics, nanotechnology and advanced circuit/IC understanding.

Communication Engineering

Similarly, the specialisation of Communication Engineering focusses its first two semesters on Principles of communication technology, photonics, digital communication and high frequency of system. This will be followed by advanced courses as electives as well as more research centric opportunities like project work. Students will have freedom to select further electrives from the wider course offerings in the department and faculty.

Final Semester

During the fourth semester students have to write their Master thesis based on their research. The research work is typically undertaken under the supervision of teaching staff at the University of Siegen, however, the research can also be undertaken at the University or in the industry. This provides excellent opportunities for the future professional career.
