Sensoren mit elektromechanischen Mikro-/Nanosystemen
Wir erforschen das kollektive Verhalten einer großen Anzahl von elektromechanischen Mikro-/Nanobauteilen mit dem Ziel, sie als Sensoren zu nutzen. Dank des Fortschritts in der Herstellungstechnologie können wir Sensoren mit sehr kleinen Abmessungen (~Nanometer) herstellen. Allerdings werden noch immer große Strukturen benötigt, um sie elektrisch mit der Außenwelt zu verbinden.
Mit Hilfe des kollektiven Verhaltens einer Reihe gekoppelter Mikroresonatoren haben wir die Machbarkeit von Multisensoren mit einer einzigen Eingangs-/Ausgangsverbindung überprüft. Diese Technik nutzen wir gleichermaßen zur Charakterisierung von Variationen im Herstellungsprozess sowie zur Bestimmung des Elastizitätsmoduls von Silizium in verschiedenen Ausrichtungen.
Außerdem verwenden wir eine Vielzahl an mathematischen Techniken, wie der inversen Eigenwertanalyse, der Störungsanalyse und Monte-Carlo-Techniken, um unser Verständnis von gekoppelten Nanosensoren zu vertiefen, sollten diese einmal nicht linear sein, und arbeiten daran, unsere gekoppelten Systeme für die gleichzeitige Erfassung einer großen Anzahl biologischer und chemischer Substanzen zu nutzen.
Zu unseren Aufgaben gehört außerdem die experimentelle Beobachtung von Verhaltensweisen nichtlinearer Systeme. Beispielsweise besteht ein solches System, welches wir untersucht haben, aus zwei Van-der-Pol-Oszillatoren, die sowohl über einen Verschiebungs- als auch über einen Geschwindigkeitsterm gekoppelt sind. Mit Hilfe theoretischer und numerischer Simulationen wurden in der Vergangenheit interessante Verhaltensweisen in Abhängigkeit von der Stärke der Kopplungsparameter beschrieben. Unser Wunsch war es, diese auch im Labor beobachten zu können.
In der Vergangenheit war unser Ansatz dazu sehr einfach: Entwurf und Bau eines analogen Systems mit Integratoren und Multiplizierern. Aufgrund der neuen Arten von Nichtlinearitäten, die wir in Mikro-/Nanosystemen beobachten, wird dies jedoch schnell zu einem Selbstläufer. Um die Sache brillant zu machen, sind wir (ich) Ingenieure im Allgemeinen nicht sehr gut in nichtlinearen Dingen. Wir investieren derzeit in andere Regimes des Systems mit mehr Nichtlinearität, die durch andere Parameter eingeführt wird. Der heilige Gral wäre natürlich ein System mit einer großen Anzahl an gekoppelten Oszillatoren...
