Fundamentals of Field Theory
About the course
The module "Fundamentals of Field Theory" teaches the Basics for description and understanding electromagnetic fields. After the introduction of the Maxwell's equations, the general behavior of field strengths at interfaces. The focus of the module then lies on the electrostatic field and the magnetic field of temporally constant currents.
After successful completion of the module the students the following competences:
The students have a sound understanding and knowledge of the different electromagnetic fields and waves and the influence of material properties on the fields. The students know the different field types, their mathematical description with the help of scalar and vector potentials and are able to independently formulate tasks and problems of electromagnetic field theory and to solve them using mathematical methods.
Curriculum
- Introduction: A way to MAXWELL's equations
- Introduction to potential theory
- Quasi-stationary fields
- Rapidly changing electromagnetic fields
- Wave propagation and wave guides
